Grandma and Grandpa Ideas
Grandparents. So often they are the hardest to shop for. It’s easy to give up, not knowing what on earth they could need or want, but if you’re stumped and your elderly loved ones have a celebration coming up (or you simply want to let them know you’ve been thinking about them – grandparents love that kind of stuff) consider a few of these ideas to celebrate your grandparents and give them gifts that keep on giving.
The Gift of Legacy
Grandparents love seeing the family through the generations. There’s something particularly impactful about a whole family in one place that warms the hearts of the eldest in the family. They got to see these generations grow up and create new branches of your family tree together, and reminding them of that is an emotional gift they are sure to adore. Create a family tree using everyone’s photos, or frame a family photo for them as a gift reminding them of how far the family has come!
Memories Over Things
Your grandparents have had a lifetime of getting things for presents, and it isn’t very often they ask for anything more. Instead of gifting them another sweater or pair of slippers, consider gifting them a memory. Maybe it’s a photo book you put together with the other grandkids, or maybe it’s taking them to a play or a movie you both love. Write them a story, create something one of a kind, and share it with them in an interactive way that makes them part of the experience. An antique tea set is a cool gift, but an antique tea set paired with weekly tea parties with you? Now that’s a gift your grandparents can treasure for much longer, and on a much deeper level.
Keep Them Involved
A lot of times, grandparents can find themselves on the outskirts. Maybe you live further away and don’t get to see them all that often, or you’re in the middle of some crazy stuff at school and you simply get too busy to see them for a while. Don’t forget to pick up the phone, write them a letter, or stop by to keep them informed on what’s going on in your life. They’re interested, and they love an opportunity to show you how proud they are, so give it to them! Gift them senior photos, team photos, or print out snapshots that you’ve shared on Facebook so they can have hard copies, and enjoy the storytelling of your life even if they aren’t on social media.
Spread the Love
When it comes down to it, grandparents love to feel the love. If you focus on that when you’re working on their gifts any time of year, they are bound to feel cherished and properly celebrated, and that’s the real gift. Surprise them with a family photography session on you the next time your family gets together and create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come by your grandparents, and the whole family!
